Ground-breaking innovation that provides a simple solution for results that last

Flexibility and Close Contact

The Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex has been developed to enable constant contact whilst flexing to the curves of the female body. Braun partnered with Crown Office Scribe Paul Antonio to bring to life why constant contact and ease of use go hand in hand, through the art of calligraphy. Paul's work shows us the intrinsic connection between close contact, correct pressure and flexibility. For him the right technique, pressure and direction of movement are all crucial in achieving the best end results. In his calligraphy, maintaining constant contact with the surface and subtly adapting the pressure means he can be flexible within the curves he sculpts on the paper. It's why he enjoyed experimenting with the Silk-épil 9 Flex. Much like the tools he routinely use, it maintains constant contact with the surface, sits comfortably in the hand and flexes to the movement of the body.

Contours and Simplicity

The artist Alexandria Coe considers simplicity to be one of the most beautiful things in life, which is reflected in her drawing. Alexandria's work brings to life the curves and contours of the female body. Her approach to representing the female form focuses on the minimum lines needed to bring it to life, heroing simplicity over complexity. This demonstrates her knowledge of the female body and how she has mastered simplicity, both of which are qualities Braun values. Like Alexandria, Braun has long stood for the removal of the unecessary and understands that today, less matters.

SensoSmart™ for a more comfortable application

SensoSmart™ for a more comfortable application

SensoSmart™ technology supports pressure control and ensures the device applies exactly the right pressure. The epilator can be used dry for maximum efficiency, or in the shower or bath for optimal comfort. If you find epilation uncomfortable then using it under water can help make it a more comfortable experience.

MicroGrip Tweezer Technology for longer-lasting smooth skin

MicroGrip Tweezer Technology for longer-lasting smooth skin

The device features MicroGrip Tweezer Technology that brings you a new level of epilation precision. The tweezers catch 3x shorter hairs than wax - 0.5mm to be precise - giving you smooth skin for weeks, not days.

Myth 1: Epilation hurts.

Every innovation at Braun starts with looking at what matters most to women and developing our products with them in mind. Braun knows women are looking for simple solutions to their hair removal routine, with results that last.

In developing its products, Braun runs product tests and takes into account all feedback. These tests include people who have never used an epilator before.

Most of the time the level of pain women imagine is much worse than the actual pain experienced. Once they try the product they are pleasantly surprised it is more comfortable than they anticipated. We found with the Silk-épil 9 Flex, the device was easy to use thanks to the flexible head – immediately creating a more positive experience.

The device has a high-frequency massage cap which stimulates the skin for a more comfortable experience. With our Wet & Dry devices you can also epilate in the bath, which is a great way to further reduce the pain, because it simply helps to be relaxed. We recommend beginners epilate weekly for the first month. This means that less hair is plucked with each treatment and you can get used to it gradually. After this you can take longer breaks. So just hang on in there at the beginning. It‘ll be worth it!

Myth 2: As with waxing, you should let the hair grow longer before you epilate.

Many women think this is the same as when you epilate, wax uproots the hair, and skin is left hair free for longer. However, this is not true - at least for Braun epilators and our new Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex.
With waxing, the wax needs to stick to the hair and the hair has to be longer to attach firmly enough for it to be pulled out. Braun's MicroGrip Tweezer Technology grabs small hairs just 0.5 mm long, holds them securely and removes them by the motion of the roller.

Myth 3: Epilation gives you ingrown hair.

Ingrown hair can occur with most hair removal methods. This depends on several factors, in particular on the part of the body treated and condition of the individual skin and hair. Some women are more prone to ingrown hairs than others but with proper preparation and post-treatment, this can be reduced. I recommend regular skin exfoliation, preferably with our exfoliation attachment and a suitable care product. This is best applied the evening before epilation. This removes old skin from the surface and ingrown hairs can be exposed. The skin also looks more radiant. After epilation you should use a nourishing, soothing skin lotion that suits your skin type. For optimum results, use the Braun deep massage attachment to apply the lotion.

Myth 4: All epilators are basically the same, and epilators from 10 years ago are not significantly different from today's epilators.

When I tell people that I develop, among other things, epilators, I often hear, “Really? What‘s there still to invent?" I always answer, loads! Our Silk-épil 9 Flex is a great example. It is the first epilator with this flexible head. When we began testing with women in the development stage, many of the testers wanted to take the devices home with them. We knew at this point we were onto something with the flexible head.
Braun has been innovating for decades, improving our products to enable the post possible consumer experience. In the case of epilators, for example, we've enabled the use of the device in the bathtub. For this we had to make the device watertight. We understood that women not only want their legs hair-free but also want beautiful skin, therefore we have models with attachments specifically for skin care, such as the Braun exfoliation brush and the Braun deep massage attachment. The high-frequency massage cap significantly stimulated the skin for a more comfortable experience during epilation and of course we have also continuously developed our Micro-grip Tweezer Technology so the device can remove even the shortest hair very efficiently.

The most important thing for us:

What are the advantages of epilation?

As the hairs are removed directly from the root during epilation, they grow back slower and finer compared to other methods of hair removal. In contrast to hair removal with wax, for example, an epilator can be used effectively with hair just 0.5 millimeters long - so you don't have to wait until it grows a certain length.

How often should you epilate?

Initially you should epilate once a week for a month, so that you have "caught" all the hairs in every growth phase. This also ensures that when they grow back all the hairs have the same length. After that, you only have to epilate about every three to four weeks.

What is the best way to prepare the skin for epilation?

The best way to prepare is with warm water, for example taking a warm shower or a bath. The pores open and the skin relaxes. In addition to calming and relaxing the skin, the heat also improves blood circulation and thus stimulates the production of the body's own substances, which make the skin less sensitive. As a result, the plucking sensation is less noticeable. A pH-neutral shower gel and warm water (not too hot) also ensure that the skin does not dry out too much.

What else can you do to prepare the skin for epilation?

Regular exfoliation once a week is not only useful to remove dead skin cells, but helps prevent ingrown hairs. In addition it stimulates blood circulation, supports the regeneration of the skin and helps to maintain a smoother, more radiant complexion. Also, an exfoliation ensures that the skin absorbs revitalizing lotions better. So that the skin is not unnecessarily stressed, you should leave at least one day between exfoliating and epilation.

How do you exfoliate properly?

In order to achieve the best possible results when exfoliating, preparation is important: First moisten the skin with warm water on the areas you want to exfoliate, for example on the legs, forearms or décolleté. The pores open and the skin relaxes. The use of an exfoliating brush is generally recommended for the best results. Using this brush, for example, you can move in slow, circular movements from the ankles upwards. Particular attention should be paid to the rougher areas on the legs, knees, elbows and arms. Keeping the pressure even helps to achieve a perfect result, so that the dead skin cells are removed and blood circulation is stimulated.

What effect will a massage have on my complexion?

Gently massaging the skin stimulates the blood circulation and promotes cell regeneration. After weekly use, the skin becomes significantly softer and visibly revitalized. In addition, a massage stimulates lymphatic drainage, which strengthens the connective tissue of the skin and thus improves the appearance of cellulite.

How should I care for my skin after epilation?

Skin - especially on the legs - is usually rather dry because it does not have as many sebaceous glands. An epilation can impact the upper layer of skin by removing some moisture. Therefore, after epilating, you should provide the skin with plenty of moisture, by using a high quality body cream or oil. A good tip: apply a body oil within five minutes after showering, this will help retain residual moisture in the skin and will also make your skin glow slightly.
